Walk or ride at least part of the way to work

Volunteer for the coffee run

Have standing or walking meetings

Track your steps

Walk instead of calling or emailing

Take breaks to move

Take the stairs

We all know that we’re supposed to take the stairs instead of the elevator, but how often do we do that? The trick is to make it a routine, so you avoid thinking about it each time as a decision you have to make. Start by trying once a day to take the stairs, then work up until it’s automatic.


Take the time at your desk to stretch. An Olympic sports physiotherapist, Mark Alexander, advises standing up every 30 minutes to stretch your chest and expand your back to reverse the hunched sitting posture. This will help relieve pain in the back and neck and make you feel more energized.
